To the right of St. Rose is King Philip II of Spain and the Archangel Michael guarding the host, which St. Rose is holding aloft. To her left is a group of Moors attempting to pull down the host.

Isabel Flores de Oliva, later to be St. Rose, (1586-1617) was canonized by Pope Clement X in 1671. She is the patron saint of people misunderstood for their piety; for the resolution of family quarrels; against vanity; embroiderers; gardeners; and in Lima, of the Peruvian police. The city of Lima was founded in 1535 by Francisco Pizarro, the first Spaniard conquistador to make contact with the Inca Empire in 1526.
