Venetian or Piedmontese

Lacca povera (or arte povera) was in imitation of Venetian and Oriental lacquer techniques. Using varnished prints, it was invented as a cheaper alternative to expensive furniture, and was intended for the country estates of aristocrats. 18th c. printing firms, such as Giovanni Remondini 's of Venice, produced sheets of motifs which would be cut out, adhered to a piece of furniture which would then be painted and varnished.
