From a Charlton, MA family, descendants of Thomas Dudley (1576-1653) of Roxbury, who served several terms as colonial governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, whose name appears on the charter of Harvard College, and is considered the founder of Cambridge, MA. Thomas Dudley's son, Josep, born in 1647, served as governor of Massachusetts until 1715.
